Melissa Balmer is the Director of Women on Bikes California + PedalLove.org. An initiative of CalBike.org, we focus on elevating the voice of women, youth and multi-cultural communities via storytelling in multiple platforms. In 2014 we're creating the first comprehensive media guide and media strategy for mainstreaming bicycling in California. Maria Sipin loves biking, walking, and exploring Los Angeles by bus and train. She is a multimodal commuter, an advocate for active transportation and a health care professional with a streetwear past. She designs and tweets, co-hosts the podcast show "Women Talk Bikes" and proudly represents Women on Bikes California and Multicultural Communities for Mobility. Josef Bray-Ali is the founder of the northeast LA-based Bike Oven bike repair collective and the Figueroa For All livable streets group, is also the co-owner of Flying Pigeon LA bike shop. His policy work, community bike rides, and social media presence have helped keeping cycling issues at the forefront of city politics.
John Jones III has dedicated his life to family, health and healthy living, service in the community, and social justice. Over the past seven years, Mr. Jones has served as the President and CEO of the East Side Riders Bike Club (ESRBC). From large Bike Ride events such as CicLAvia to ESRBC Family and Friends rides, Jones has embodied the concept of change through service. Jones sees everyone in the community as his family, and is devoted to reaching out and demonstrating that together we are making things bettering the community one pedal at a time.
Jennifer Klausner is the Executive Director of the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition. Prior to joining LACBC, her career focused on consumer products marketing and branding with Hello Kitty and Barbie, at Nakajima and Mattel, respectively. A native Angeleno, she holds degrees from both UCLA and USC, and commutes by bike frequently. She has a diverse bike advocacy experience, is an avid and still occasionally competitive mountain biker, USAC certified Coach and a League of American Bicyclists LCI. Learn more at la-bike.org.
Alexis Lantz is the President of the Board of the California Bicycle Coalition and a policy analyst with the Los Angeles County Public Health Department’s PLACE (Policies for Livable, Active Communities and Environments) Program. Carlos Morales established the Eastside Bike Club (ESBC) in June 2008, in El Sereno. ESBC has grown to 400 members from all over Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. Morales was recruited by the LAPD to form the 1st ever “LAPD Bike Task Force," one of 9 civilians selected to serve as a liaison between Los Angeles Cyclist and LAPD. Morales purchased Stans Bike Shop, located in Monrovia, CA in 2012.
Cynthia Rose co-founder & Director of Santa Monica Spoke, a local chapter of Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC), she also serves as a Board of Director of LACBC and for the California Bicycle Coalition. Cynthia is a League Cycling Instructor (LCI) with the League of American Bicyclists, teaches Smart Cycling Classes throughout Los Angeles County as well as coordinating Safe Routes to School programming in the City of Santa Monica. She is a strong and committed advocate for improved pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and Complete Streets Policies at the local, state and national levels.
Alissa Walker writes and speaks about design, architecture, cities, transportation and walking for many publications and events. She is the urbanism editor at Gizmodo and her work has appeared regularly in Los Angeles Magazine, the LA Weekly, Dwell, Fast Company, GOOD, The New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times, as well as on the KCRW public radio show DnA: Design and Architecture. Don Ward is a cycling and pedestrian safestreets advocate in Los Angeles. He is a founding member of Midnight Ridazz a do-ocracy consisting of over 10,000 members in Southern California, that has hosted 10,000 cycling events to date. Don is also the founder and race director for Wolfpack Hustle The Unified Title Series, a world class Los Angeles based race series that begins with the largest unsanctioned bicycle race in the world and ends with one man and one woman urban cycling champion.
